The one who is holding out.....

Well, after all this time, I guess my oldest son just read my bio.  Do you think he took offense?  He really is such a nice guy, and I know he did this just to get a rise out of his mother.
I copied and pasted this from Facebook.  Check out the comments.  Too funny!

Keeping busy!

Hello!  how is everyone doing?  One more day until the weekend, which I know everyone looks forward to.
I visited the library yesterday and wanted to get "The Help", all 200 copies were out!  I am number 64 on the list.  I may just have to buy a used copy from Amazon.

My neighbor and I decided to start a book club for our little neighborhood.  I sent out an email yesterday and so far received 2 RSVP.  I think it will be fun to get together once a month.  I would like to start out reading The Help, and then maybe we can all go and see the movie.  I have never belonged to a book club.  I take it you all read the chosen book and get together and discuss it, and then choose a new book for the next month.
Publishing and Self-Publishing...
Of course we will have snacks as well.  I will have to come up with some diet snacks because everyone is on a diet around here.  Something healthy

Oh, I wanted to show you what I have been working on to keep busy, besides reading.

Aren't they the cutest flip flops ever!

I went to Old Navy and bought some flip flops and decided they needed some cuteness to them.  What do ya think?  Since I made a craft area in my office, I had everything I needed there.  I did purchase some more ribbon and jewels.

I think they are cute for the summer.  Easy to slip on and run out, with a little style!

What is everyone doing this weekend?  Anything special?  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, even though it is going to be hot, hot, hot, stay cool!

Wedding Day....

Well, the wedding was fabulous, and we had such a great time!  Karen just passed the Bar exam, and now she is working and Pete is going back for his masters in International Business.  He just spent 3 weeks in China, and they are going to Italy for their Honeymoon!  They did the wedding their way, very economically.  They had a friend take pictures, another friend made the cake, which was beautiful.  She didn't want a Vail or flowers, saying they were a waste of money.

The drive to DC was about 3 hours, well maybe 3 1/2 hours including stopping for breakfast.  We drove down with my sister & brother in law, Andy & Nancy, so we discussed everything under the sun, including the wedding and wondering who would be there.  The bride and groom reserved a block of rooms at the Rouge hotel because it was only a block from the reception.  They had a bus take us to the church and back.  The hotel was very modern.  They called it a boutique hotel.  A little too modern for my taste, but everyone stayed there so it was fun.

Isn't the cake different!  It was delicious!

I can tell you that fun was had by all.  It is always special when we can get together with family!
It's good to be home.

DC Wedding...

Happy Friday everyone!  The weekend is here and this weekend we are headed to Washington, DC for a wedding.  Our whole family is going minus the first born, age 35, he is going on a Man weekend with 6 other guys to one of their cabins up  in Vermont.  This friend and his girlfriend built a cabin on this island.  It has no running water yet and you have to take a boat to get there!  Not my kind of vacation for fun. But they go every year and work on the cabin.  Anyway, I am getting off track here.  We are heading out tomorrow.

Heres The Punchline

It is going to be so much fun!  The wedding is going to be held at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Arlington, VA.  and the reception is being held at The Carnegie Institution for Science, in Washington.  This should be interesting.  I will be sure to take many pictures to post at a later date.
There is a block of rooms reserved for family at The Rouge Hotel at 16th street NW and Intersection of Rhode Island NW Washington, DC.  We have never stayed there but I looked it up and it is kind of a Boutique Hotel owned by Kimpton Hotels.  All I know is that it is going to be HOT!
Hope you all have some fun things planned this weekend, and a way to stay cool!

Joined the Library...

OK, I finally joined the Library.  I kept telling myself I really need to join, so I did yesterday.  I haven't been in a library in forever!  They look the same.  I guess Libraries don't change much except for the computers they have added.  I did notice that it isn't as quiet as I remember.  People seem to be talking all over the place.  I thought when you were in a library you were supposed to speak in a whisper, if you had to talk at all.  I noticed that some people come to the library just to read the newspaper.  Some of the people on the computers were on Facebook, some were playing games.  As much as some things that change, some things stay the same.

Reading rooms in libraries

Candida Hofer, "Libraries", Hardcover 2006

use libraries

I know many of you probably have Kindles or Ipads to read books on, but that can get expensive as well as buying books.  I think the library might be just the thing for me.  They even have book sales, bring a bag and fill it up for $5!  That should keep me busy for a while.
For some reason I seem to read more books in the summer.  Once the fall and winter comes along I never seem to be able to find the time to read as much.  Why is that?
When do you read?  Some people just read before bed.  I feel a little guilty to sit down during the day and take the time to read.  I feel like I should be doing something else around the house.  Why is that?  I realize you have little ones around you are busy every minute, bedtime may be the only quiet time that you get to read.  That is if you can keep your eyes open long enough, I do remember that.

Let me know when you like to read, and if you use and buy books or kindles, or use libraries.

Have a wonderful weekend, looks like we are going to have some good weather until the Heat Wave starts next week!

Blog Hop Friday.....

This is a blog hop I am following.  We are finishing the following statements.
This week’s statements:

1. I don’t understand why _ Grown men in the senate and congress can't seem to agree. I think we need more women in there!

2. I don’t know what is worse_ The humidity in the summer or the ice in the winter?

3. My _  feet  always get cold.

4. I wish I owned a ___home at the shore!

Why don't you link up and join the fun!

NEXT

OK, this is Five question Friday  http://fivecrookedhalos.blogspot.com/

Link up and get to know your blogger friends better!

1. If you knew your best friend's spouse was cheating on her or him, would you tell her (him)?  This is really a tough question.  I think if I knew for sure, and not through gossip, I might consider telling her.  I sure would want someone to tell me.  Maybe even catch him myself by being somewhere they are and letting him know that if he doesn't say something, I will.

2. Soda in a can or a bottle?  Oh my gosh definitely a bottle, I think can soda has too much carbonation for some reason

3. What do you wash first, hair or body? Hair first, conditioner, wash body then rinse conditioner out of hair. I think you should always go top to bottom
.
4. What advice would you give to any new mama?  It does get better.  They will sleep eventually.  Try and enjoy every minute because they grow so fast!

5. What is your best hangover remedy? Water before bed along with 3 Advil. Not that I have needed this remedy for a while, it is what I recall and also raising 4 kids that went to college

Have a wonderful weekend filled with family and friends!

Ten on Tuesday.....

I am linking up with http://www.luluanddaisy.blogspot.com/ Lulu and Daisy for this weeks 10 questions.

1. When you are on a plane and the kid behind you is kicking your seat, what do you do?
I think I would first wait to see if the Mother can handle her child.  If it continues, I would definitely say  something to the mother.

2. What food that you KNOW is bad for you and you shouldn’t have, but you love/eat it anyway?
Unfortunately I have a sweet tooth, so anything Chocolate!  Home baked goodies, and Harboro gummy bears!

Boy, this is a hard one.  The most recent book that I loved was Winters Garden.  But I enjoy reading all kinds of books.

4.  If I came to visit you in your town, where would we eat?
     Cheesecake Factory

5. You have 500 dollars and 40 minutes to spend it at any store you want. Where do you go?
Definitely the Apple store, I want an IPhone, and with the rest of the money I would pre pay the monthly bill for as far as the money would go.

Lulu and Daisy, Flip Flops and Pearls, How I met your father, Empty nest, Desperately Seeking Seersucker, Sundresses and Smiles, The Good Life of Design, Emily Clark, Centsational Girl, Miss Mustard Sead.  A few more.  I think I spend way too much time reading all of them, but I so enjoy them.

7. What’s the longest you’ve ever been stuck at an airport?
Fortunately I have never been stuck in an airport, I guess because we don't travel that much by air.

8. What’s your daily makeup/face/cleansing routine?
Roc moisturizer & eye cream, unless I have Lancome samples.  Clinique foundation, only in the winter, drug store eyeliner,  Lancome Eyeshadow foundation, under eye concealer, Lancome Cils Booster for lashes, Clinique Eyebrow powder, Lancome Definicils mascara and Clinique Blush right now, lipstick when I go out.  As far as cleansing, Loreal eye makeup remover, Aveno cleansing foam for makeup.

Jaycee Dugard

My heart hurts.  I can't even imagine going through something like this, or my child going through something like this.  What her mother must have been going through all those years.  I am watching Diane Sawyer interview Jaycee now.  It is hard to watch knowing what this young woman went through as a child.  Bearing two children in a tent in the back yard.  How would you handle something like that?

Jaycee Dugard, right, who was abducted as an 11-year-old, talks to ABC News' Diana Sawyer.
Jaycee Dugard, right, who was abducted as an 11-year-old, talks to ABC News' Diana Sawyer.

Can you even imagine living here.

The police searched Mr Garrido's house 16 times because he was on probation.  They never even checked what was going on in his back yard with all of those small buildings and tents.

These are the two police women who thought something wasn't right with the two little girls who were with Philip Garrido who was preforming at Berkley university.  Thank God for these two women who used their instinct and mothers intuition to check what was going on.
I can't understand how this went on so long.  Who hires these parole officers?  No one wants to take responsibility for this egregious injustice!

Jaycee looks wonderful and at peace despite all that she has been through for the past 18 years.  I am sure she will need therapy for many more years.  She has written a book, and that in itself is therapeutic.

This was a very good interview.  Diane Sawyer interviewed Jaycee and her Mother.  Chris Cuomo interviewed the police departments involved in this, as well as the officers who found Jaycee.

Kiss your children goodnight and keep them safe.

Hello! We are home.....

I am sorry it has taken me so long to get to my laptop!  Vacation was great, couldn't have asked for  better weather.  The water was warm (for some people).  We had a blast!  Beach everyday, cocktails and apps every night on the deck.

Look how calm the ocean was one evening.  We were looking from the deck.

Grand pop even stayed up at the house one day to babysit Ryan, so we didn't have to bring him with us to the beach.

Mother and daughter, (my daughter and me).

Ryan and his mom.

Grand daughter Megan, isn't she a cutie, just turned 7, going on 13!

Grand son Connor, watching TV with his Aunt Tricia.

Son # 1 with his cute girlfriend!

Handsome hubby & grand pop!

All three grand kids in their 4th of July outfits.  Time for pictures!

Our daughter and her family.

The beach by day.

This is where we always stay. My sister & brother in law own it and it is a wonderful family house!
I didn't get pictures of everyone.  Some of the family were down the weekend before we got there, so I missed them.
It was so relaxing.  I had a chance to read, did some shopping but we didn't seem to have time for a movie.  Maybe in August when we have the family reunion.  We are so lucky to be able to vacation together and actually enjoy each other!  I thank God every day for my wonderful family.
Hope you all have a awesome weekend of relaxing with family and friends, you can't ask for anything better than that!
